TCT has a number of loyal volunteer drivers and escorts who have been with us since 1993. TCT's existing volunteers are friendly, skilled, competent and entirely committed to serving those members of the community who need them most.
Pictured above is volunteer driver Richard Geddes, working with members of the Tendring District Youth Council. Richard is a Chief Engineer in the Merchant Navy. He shares his shore leave with his family, and Tendring Community Transport's passengers. Richard is a favourite with many of our customers, who appreciate his cheerful approach and attention to road and passenger safety. Richard has been a TCT volunteer for ten years.
Whether unemployed, retired, working or just wanting something to do, men and women volunteer drivers are paramount to TCT's success. Volunteer drivers' work helps thousands of isolated residents to get out and about. This enhances the quality of life for passengers and volunteers alike. Most importantly, this work enables people to participate in community activities, it enables greater choice and the opportunity to lead independent lives.
Volunteering offers great satisfaction for those who participate. It enables involvement in helping other and this in turn helps communities. It opens up opportunities for training and paid work for unemployed people, a structured day, new social contacts and recognition.
