What is the Hospital Hopper?

The Colchester Hospital Hopper Service was introduced in July 2004 in partnership with central government, Essex County Council Essex County Council and Tendring Primary Care Trust (noe North East Essex Primary Care Trust). TCT also received a  one-off financial contribution  for the Hopper service from the Neighbourhood Interaction Fund.

On 29th January 2008, North East Essex Primary Care Trust's Board of Directors, approved three-year's partnership funding for the Hospital Hopper service, making them the main funder for this service

The Hopper is a wheelchair accessible minibus service that  helps people access Colchester General Hospital, Essex County Hospital, Clacton and Colchester Hospices, The North East Essex Primary Care Centre in Turner Road, Colchester, and The Oaks Hospital. The bus will stop at any other health facility on route, on request.

Who can use the Hospital Hopper?

Anyone who finds it difficult or impossible to access public transport.

Please ring 01255 436962 for up to date fare information.  Free travel if you hold a concessionery bus pass. Dogs who assist disable people are welcome and travel free. Escorts are welcome.
