Transport for Children and Younger People

For the past ten years Tendring Community Transport  (TCT) has helped to address the transport needs of children and younger people living throughout rural Tendring district. TCT provides transport for schools (including nursery schools), colleges and other educational establishments.  Demand for this service exceeds supply, and we are addressing the problem in partnership with other organisations.

This year (2008) TCT led a  'Transport for Children and Younger Peoples project.  With the help of Essex County Council's Community Initiative Fund (£15,000 contribution) TCT launched the project and raised the balance needed to purchase a new 15 passenger seats minibus.

Children and Younger People representatives are responsible for designing livery  for the vehicle, with the help of professional designers. Stanford Coachworks contributed free bus skirting and curtains to enhance the look of the vehicle.  Tendring Technical College kindly donated free, secure parking for the vehice. Other partners include Essex County Council's Highways & Transportation team, whose ongoing grant support contributes to the administration of the new vehicle. Tendring Youth Assembly and Tendring District Youth Council, have made valuable contributions by identifying children and young people's  transport needs through events and transport surveys. Extended Schools Co-ordinator Maryon Pape has worked tirelessly to recruit volunteer drivers and escorts, who  receive high quality training from TCT. These volunteers give their time free of charge to help their communities. Each undertakes enhanced CRB checks. The children and young peoples' safety is of paramount importance. Audrey Haggis, Extended School's Co-ordinator has also made a valuable contribution in identifying the need in her area, and supporting the transport sub group meetings.

If you are a Tendring district based school, college/other educational/training establishment, or know of any child or young person who finds it difficult or impossible to access transport, please contact, or refer to our transport booking line on 01255 436962 for information on how to use the service.
